A Library to Manage WiFi Connections in Both XP and Vista
Nicomsoft releases WiFi-Manager 2.4 that promises to help developers add their software WiFi connections management functionality
for Windows XP SP2 and Vista.
Nicomsoft today announces WiFi-Manager v2.4, the newest version of a library, allowing developers to manage WiFi connections in
Windows XP SP2 and Vista. The current release (2.4) boasts some noteworthy changes in the feature set. The library has been added
an option for getting MAC addresses of the current and available networks. Besides, there's an updated Delphi Advanced Sample
application. Other key additions include a function for getting RSSI value of available networks, improved ActiveX wrapper and some
minor changes.
Many programmers who attempt to create an application that could include a WiFi connections management capability face an
unexpected challenge. Both Windows XP SP2 and Vista have totally different APIs to manage WiFi adapters and networks. What makes
things worse is that the API for XP is almost not documented and there are no examples how to use it. This is not the case with the
API for Vista which is documented and comes with examples but the challenge remains since developers have to write two different
codes.
The WiFi-Manager library offers developers a "one-stop" set of API functions to manage WiFi connections and settings in both XP
and Vista. There is no need to learn anything, try to figure out how to manage WiFi with no documentation at hand.
A COM interface for all API functions is another best feature, layered on top of the main functionality in WiFi-Manager. It
enables developers to control WiFi settings conveniently from Visual Basic, VisualBasic.NET or C#.
The library delivers a host of functions to enumerate WiFi adapters, enumerate available networks and get their settings.
Additionally, there are functions related to connecting/disconnecting to networks and features to work with wireless networks
profiles.
The two key benefits of using WiFi-Manager is that the development cycle becomes considerably faster and more hassle-free.
Besides, developers can create a product, which is able to use the capabilities of both versions of Windows OS to manage WiFi
networks.
The library has already been adopted by many users who found it helpful. "I spent almost a month scratching my head over Wireless
Zero Configuration and how it works, says Roman Korolenko, one of the customers. "Then I suddenly stumbled across this very nice
library. With its help, I was able to make everything work in two days! Highly recommended!"
