Nicomsoft OCR: Developer's Guide

Support for PDF files

Nicomsoft OCR can process PDF files. By default, the GPL GhostScript library is used to convert PDF files to images. According to the GPL, GhostScript cannot be distributed with NSOCR, so GhostScript is not included in the NSOCR SDK.
You can download and install GhostScript separately. NSOCR will automatically locate it, and will use it to process PDF files (you do not need to configure NSOCR for that). As soon as you install GhostScript, it will be available for NSOCR. If your application tries to recognize text in a PDF file, but NSOCR cannot locate GhostScript, the ERROR_CANNOTLOADGS error code will be returned.

Some GhostScript-related options are available in NSOCR. Please see the Configuration section for details. If you have any problems with GPL GhostScript, you can use a different PDF library for converting PDF files to images.

Note:
You need to install an appropriate version of GhostScript: NSOCR x86 needs GhostScript x86, and NSOCR x64 needs GhostScript x64. If necessary, you can install both x86 and x64 versions of GhostScript.

Note:
You need to use GhostScript v9.x. (GhostScript v8.x cannot be used as a library, so it is not supported.)
